The lift, which will start at the Basin and span the quiet communities of Currawong and Great Mackerel Beach, is mooted to attract 100,000 sightseers to the region a year.
An Asian-based investment bank is behind the chairlift plan. A spokesman from the company said the lift would operate between 10am and midnight, 7-days per week.
"The views will be spectacular," he said.
"Crossing overhead Great Mackerel Beach, some 20 metres above the houses ... It's sure to be extremely popular."
More to come.
